Configuring Geofence Alerts for the Lone Worker Device

How to turn on, off and configure Geofence alerts for the Lone Worker Device in the Safepoint Web Portal.

Written by James Rogers

Note: Only Company Owners, Company Admins or Team Admins of the team the device is assigned to can modify Geofence Alert settings.

Geofence Alerts are a type of alert for the Lone Worker Device that triggers when the device enters or leaves a defined area. Each device supports up to four geofences.

You must have the Geofence Alert add-on in your Lone Worker Device subscription plan to use this feature.

💡 Configuring multiple devices? If you need to apply the same geofence across several devices at once, jump to Configuring Multiple Devices at Once

Navigate to the Device Page

  1. Log in to the Web Portal

  2. Click Settings in the left-hand sidebar

  3. Click Devices

  4. Find and click your device to open its full page. If you need help locating it, see Searching for Lone Worker Devices

  5. Scroll down to the Geofence Alerts section

You'll see a table listing up to four geofence slots, each showing its current status, shape, direction, size, and any pending updates.

Adding or Editing a Geofence

  1. Click the pencil icon next to an available geofence slot to open the configuration pop-up

  2. Enable the geofence using the Geofence enabled toggle

  3. Choose a Shape:

    • Circle — define a centre point and radius

    • Polygon — place between 3 and 15 points to draw a custom boundary

  4. Set the Alert direction:

    • On entering — triggers an alert when the device enters the area

    • On exiting — triggers an alert when the device leaves the area

  5. If using a Circle, set the Radius (m) to define the size of the area (100m min, 60,000m max)

  6. Use the map to define your geofence area:

    • Circle — click the map to place the centre point

    • Polygon — click to add points, double-click to finish, and right-click a point to remove it. You can search for a place or address using the search bar

  7. Click Submit

The slot will show a Pending status while the configuration is downloaded by the device. Make sure the device is switched on and has signal — this can typically take 5–30 minutes.

Disabling a Geofence

If you want to temporarily stop a geofence from triggering alerts without losing its configuration, you can disable it rather than delete it.

  1. Click the pencil icon next to the geofence slot you want to disable

  2. Set the Geofence enabled toggle to the off position

  3. Click Submit

The slot will show a Pending status while the update is downloaded by the device. Make sure the device is switched on and has signal — this can typically take 5–30 minutes. Your shape and settings will be preserved and can be re-enabled at any time.

Deleting a Geofence

To permanently remove a geofence, click the red trash icon on the relevant geofence slot. The slot will show a Pendingstatus while the device downloads the update. Make sure the device is switched on and has signal.

Configuring Multiple Devices at Once

If you need to apply the same geofence to several devices at once, you can use Bulk Actions from the Devices page rather than configuring each device individually.

  1. Go to Settings → Devices

  2. Tick the checkboxes next to the devices you want to configure

  3. Click Bulk actions and select Geofence

  4. Select the Geofence slot you want to configure (Geofence 1–4)

  5. Configure the geofence as normal — shape, alert direction, radius, and map area

  6. Click Apply

All selected devices will show a Pending status while they download the update. Make sure devices are switched on and have signal — this can typically take 5–30 minutes.

To cancel pending geofence updates across multiple devices, select the relevant devices, click Cancel pending, and choose the geofence slot you want to cancel.
